Sweet 16 vs Quinceanera

Hi, I'm planning my sweet 16 over a year ahead of time because I know my parents will want to start saving money and preparing now.

However I am not hispanic so I can't have a quinceanera. I want to have a semi formal sweet sixteen though.

I talked to a friend about it and told her how I wanted my perfect princess dress on my sweet 16 party day.

When I told her about maybe a bouffet, a father daughter dance, a dj with lights and how I wanted it to be homecoming formal she told me something that slightly shocked me.

She said it sounded like I was trying to have a quince...

She is hispanic and sort of explained to me how quinces are a hispanic tradition. I completely understand that but why cant I have my perfect princess day with a tiara and everything?

Do you think I should keep my party semi formal or maybe just an at home celebration with friends...and I'm considering that maybe since she suggested something like that to me maybe she isnt a true friend.

Sorry that its so long and a slightly heavy load but I want someone elses opinion on whether or not a semi-fomal sweet sixteen is too much of a mimcry of a quince in another culture.
