Should I Throw a Party?

by Maria
(Prescott, Arizona, United States)

So I am not sure if I want to throw a sweet 16 party. I will be turning 16 in October and I honestly have no idea what to do. I am not into the whole Walt Disney theme or the "girly girl" theme.

I am kind of more into the whole black light thing. I get embarrassed really easily and I don't want it to be seen as "oh that girls party sucked."

I would rather not have my mom there because she embarasses me so much!

So is there a way to have her not part of the party maybe in a separate room with other adults?

I need to keep the budget extremely low! So if there is any DIY things that would be perfect!

You need more confidence hunny! Throwing a sweet 16 isn't about how cool you will look, it's about having a great time with your friends to celebrate YOU!

I would not be inviting people who would want to say things like " Oh that party sucked" any day! You sound like a great girl and deserve a great time.

The parties that I have posted on my site are all parties that I have attended, and had a great time at. If you think that a black light party is more suitable for your style, then go for it!

It really doesn't cost much to throw, just to to your local dollar store, pick up a ton of black lights, some black sheets or garbage bags to cover your windows, glow sticks and anything else you can think up that glows.

Have your guests wear white and blast the music. Warn your mom about what type of party this will be, and talk to her honestly about your feelings.

Oh, and check out our Glow in the Dark party page, it has more ideas, and a discussion board of ideas from other sweet 16 girls.

Good luck!
