Lighting Sweet 16 Candles

by Sam
(Hicksville, NY)

What is the importance of the order of the candles?

I understand that family goes first, but than does the most important friend in my life go next or do I go from the least important to the most important?

This is for my friend so please let me know.

Any way

Do whichever way you want, its an important ceremony but it's rules are not written in stone.

The point is having one at your party in general.

You can light the candles in absolutely any order that you wish.

There are no real boundaries for this tradition, you can do anything that you want.

You may have noticed our general order of candles on our Sweet 16 Candle Ceremony page, but you can really put your special guests in any certain order that you wish.

If you have more than 16 people that you want to include, you can include more than one person for each candle.

The purpose of the sweet 16 candle ceremony is to celebrate not only your birthday, but to honor the people you truly care about.

So don't worry about whether it is classified as "proper" to follow a certain candle lighting ceremony procedure, just do what you think is right for the ceremony!

Have a great party.
