Ice Cream Social in Spring?

My sixteenth birthday is April 15; this year, it's a Saturday, so hurray for that.

I have few friends, but a big family, so it's necessary for me to have a party for about forty people.

I didn't really want to have a big extravaganza because I'm shy and money-conscious, so I decided on an early to late afternoon ice cream social.

Here are some general questions -

-Is April 15 too early for an ice cream social in New York/Long Island?

- Are there any tips on how to plan one for forty people online?

-Is there maybe a different, low-key theme I could have as a back up idea?
